When was the last time you purged your kitchen cabinets?
If you're like many of us, you’ve probably added new items—gadgets, cookware, containers—without letting go of the old, broken, or unused things they were meant to replace. Over time, those items pile up, and your cabinets become cluttered and inefficient.
Let’s be honest: with the rising cost of food, none of us can afford to waste anything. That’s why now is the perfect time to check expiration dates, reassess your pantry, and
get intentional about how your kitchen functions.
Here are a few places to start:
Cabinets & Drawers: Could you fill a box with things you haven’t touched in months? Do you really need five spatulas or that smoothie maker you haven’t used since 2021?
Refrigerator & Freezer: Take stock. Are things labeled and dated? Do you know what’s inside those mystery foil-wrapped packages? Aim to clear and clean your fridge monthly—or at least every other month—to keep your food fresh and safe.
Spices & Teas: These often get overlooked, but both have relatively short shelf lives. Toss anything that smells dull or is far past its prime.
Flow & Function: Is there a part of your kitchen that drives you crazy? A corner cabinet that’s always a mess? A drawer that won’t close? There are tons of simple, affordable fixes—many from your local dollar store—that can help your kitchen flow more efficiently.
Gadget Graveyard: Let’s talk about those “as seen on TV” gadgets collecting dust. If they’re not being used, it’s time to let them go. Storing them in the basement or pushing them deeper into the cabinet doesn’t solve the problem—it just hides it.
Set a recurring reminder to purge your kitchen every few months. You’ll gain more space, more clarity, and a smoother cooking experience.
Your kitchen should work for you—not against you.
